Keeping Low Flood Insurance Rates Gives ?Certainty? for Missouri Families, Says McCaskill

WASHINGTON ? U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill released the following statement after FEMA announced that it will indefinitely extend the ?preferred risk? coverage portion of the national flood insurance program.

?The extension of these low rates will help ensure that Missouri families have the certainty they need for their homes, communities, and businesses. As we know from last year?s historic flooding, this is a real risk for many Missouri families and businesses, and I?ll continue fighting for a flood insurance program that helps protect them and allows folks to effectively plan for the future.?

McCaskill helped lead the recent effort to renew the national flood insurance program, passed earlier this year. She also successfully fought for disaster relief funds from the Department of Agriculture in the aftermath of deadly flooding in 2010 and led the charge for reconstruction of the crucially important Birds Point Levee to its original height.
