Jelly Bean-toting Samsung Galaxy S II Plus will skip UK

Samsung has announced a follow-up to its popular Galaxy SII handset that will use the most recent Jelly Bean version of the Android operating system.

The device was announced by the Korean handset maker at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Thursday.

"The Galaxy S II Plus runs on Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) enabling faster and smoother screen transitions, and
providing an enhanced user interface featuring a new, easier-to-use notification panel," the company said in a statement. "It is powered by an impressive 1.2GHz dual core processor that enables easy multi-tasking, smooth screen transitions and superior graphics for some of the most demanding applications and games."

Other key specs of the device include a 4.3-inch WVGA AMOLED Plus display, 8-megapixel camera on the rear and forward-facing 2-megapixel snapper on the front for stills or video calling.

Aside from hardware changes, Samsung has also introduced features found on its other range-leading devices such as the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note II, such as being able to simultaneously play a video in a pop-up window while using another app. It also includes S Voice and Voice unlock features for controlling the phone with verbal commands.

Samsung did not say how much the device would cost, or which countries it would be available in but a spokeswoman did confirm to ZDNet that the updated Galaxy SII Plus would not be making its way to the UK.
