Scolari accepts job as government World Cup advisor

Rio De Janeiro, Sep 26

Luiz Felipe Scolari has been hired by the Brazilian government as a consultant to help promote the 2014 World Cup.

Brazil's 2002 World Cup-winning coach said Tuesday he had agreed to take up the post after a meeting with federal sports minister Aldo Rebelo in the capital Brasilia.

"I have accepted the job under the proviso that I will be able to negotiate the dates with the ministry," Scolari said.

"The most likely scenario is that I will be available until the end of the year. After that I hope to be working in some capacity with a club or national team somewhere in the world. But I hope I can continue to help working on the project."

Scolari, who earlier this month was sacked as coach of Brazil's Palmeiras, has made no secret of his wish to lead a national team at the World Cup in Brazil.

The 63-year-old has also revealed his intention to return to the English Premier League following an ill-fated seven-month stint at Chelsea which ended in February 2009.
